AERMOD Software (AERMOD Studio)

AERMOD Studio runs the US EPA AERMOD and AERMET models in your browser and produces the ground-level concentration tables, isopleth maps, NAAQS comparison and an Indian EIA-format report. Book a free demo for your own site.

AERMOD Software Built for Indian EIA and Consent Studies

AERMOD Studio is DS Technoverse’s air dispersion modelling software. It runs the regulatory US EPA models — AERMOD for dispersion and AERMET for meteorology — and turns a study into the outputs an Indian Environmental Clearance (EC), Consent to Establish (CTE) or expansion application needs: maximum ground-level concentrations (GLCs), values at villages and schools, isopleth maps, the comparison with the National Ambient Air Quality Standards (NAAQS) 2009 and a complete, printable report.

There is nothing to install. You enter the site, the stacks, the sensitive receptors and the baseline air quality in a web form; the software fetches the meteorological data, runs the models on our processing machine and shows the results on screen in a few minutes. The same study can be re-run after a change in stack height or emission rate, which makes it practical to test control options before a design is fixed.

Book a Free Demo With Your Own Site

The demo is free and uses your project, not a canned example. Send us the site coordinates, one or more stacks with their emission rates, and the season you want to model. We run the study in AERMOD Studio and take you through it in a short online session: the meteorological data that was selected and why, the isopleths, the receptor table and the report.

You keep the demo report. It is watermarked “DRAFT” so that it is not mistaken for a submission copy; when you are ready to submit, the same study is finalised under a plan.

What You Enter

  • Study and site: client, purpose, report number, site coordinates, elevation, dominant land use within 3 km and the share of urban land use that justifies rural or urban dispersion.
  • Stacks: location, height, inner diameter, exit temperature and velocity, and emission rates for PM10, PM2.5, SO₂, NOx and CO — typed in, or pasted from a spreadsheet, with a unit converter for mg/Nm³ and kg/h data.
  • Plant boundary: a radius or the boundary corners. Receptors inside the plant are left out, receptors are placed every 25–50 m along the fence line, and the maximum GLC is reported outside the boundary only.
  • Sensitive receptors: villages, schools, hospitals and other locations reported individually.
  • Baseline air quality: each monitoring station with its monitoring period, number of samples, the 24-hour statistic (98th percentile or maximum), CO 1-hour and 8-hour values and period means.
  • Meteorology: automatic NOAA airport data, NASA POWER hourly data for the site, or your own site weather station data as a CSV.

Meteorology Handled for You — and Explained

Most of the effort in a dispersion study goes into the meteorological file, and most review comments are about it. AERMOD Studio prepares it automatically and documents every choice in the report.

  • Surface data: every NOAA Integrated Surface Database (ISD) station within 150 km is checked, the valid hours in your study period are counted, and the nearest station with at least 90% valid hours is used.
  • When no airport qualifies — for example because NOAA’s legacy ISD records stopped updating in August 2025 — the software uses NASA POWER hourly data for the exact site location and says so in the report, with the reason each airport was rejected.
  • Upper air: soundings from the Integrated Global Radiosonde Archive (IGRA); the nearest station with a morning sounding on at least 75% of days is used, and the next one fills gaps.
  • Site data: upload the hourly record from your baseline monitoring station (wind speed and direction, temperature, humidity, and optionally solar radiation, cloud and pressure); gaps are filled from the nearest airport.
  • Quality gate: a run with less than 90% valid meteorological hours does not produce a report or a NAAQS verdict, unless you choose a watermarked draft.

What You Get

  • Maximum incremental GLC for every pollutant and averaging period, with its distance, direction and coordinates.
  • Concentrations at each sensitive receptor, with background, cumulative total and NAAQS status.
  • Isopleth (contour) maps for each pollutant and averaging period, and a wind rose for the study period.
  • Site location map with the 3 km circle, receptor grid map, monitoring station and meteorological station maps.
  • NAAQS 2009 comparison with the project’s share of every total, and a clear statement where the background alone already exceeds a standard.
  • A complete report in the format used in Indian EIA practice: cover, sign-off page, contents and lists of tables and figures, headers and page numbers on every page, appendices on the regulatory basis, the modelling protocol and the model archive. Download it as a PDF.
  • The model archive: the AERMET and AERMOD input and output files for every pollutant, so a reviewer or an auditor can reproduce the run.

Who Uses AERMOD Studio

  • EIA consultants and NABET-accredited organisations who want to run more studies without a dedicated modelling desk.
  • Industries preparing CTE, CTO, expansion or stack-height studies, and EHS teams testing control options.
  • Environmental laboratories that already collect baseline data and want to offer modelling with it.
  • Engineering and EPC teams comparing stack designs at the concept stage.

How It Works

  1. 1Free demo: we run your site and walk you through the results online.
  2. 2Plan: choose per-study runs or an account for your team; we quote a standard nominal charge for your volume.
  3. 3Enter or import the study: site, stacks, receptors, boundary and baseline.
  4. 4Run: the models run on our processing machine; the page shows each step as it happens and the results usually arrive within minutes.
  5. 5Review and report: check the results, adjust and re-run if needed, then download the report and the model archive.

Current Scope, Stated Plainly

AERMOD Studio models point sources (stacks) over flat terrain with the regulatory default options, for PM10, PM2.5, SO₂, NOx (assessed as NO₂) and CO. Terrain elevations (AERMAP), building downwash (BPIP-PRIME) and area, volume or line sources are not part of the software yet.

Studies that need them — hilly sites, stacks close to tall buildings, fugitive dust from mines and stockpiles, road traffic — are handled by our modelling team through the AERMOD air dispersion modelling service, using the same reporting standard.

Why Use AERMOD Studio Rather Than a Desktop Package

  1. 1Nothing to install or maintain: the US EPA programs, the meteorological downloads and the processing run on our side.
  2. 2Indian report format out of the box: NAAQS 2009, CPCB practice and the EIA Notification 2006 are built into the tables and the text.
  3. 3Meteorology that holds up in review: station selection rules, data capture and the reasons for every rejected station are in the report.
  4. 4Fast iterations: change a stack and re-run in minutes; every run is kept with its inputs.
  5. 5Support from modellers: the people who built the software also run regulatory studies, and can take over a study that falls outside the software’s scope.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the AERMOD Studio demo really free?

Yes. We run one study for your own site — your coordinates, stacks and season — and walk you through it online at no charge. You keep the demo report, which is watermarked “DRAFT”. There is no obligation to buy.

Is this the real US EPA AERMOD model?

Yes. AERMOD Studio runs the US EPA AERMOD and AERMET programs with the regulatory default options. The version numbers are printed in the report, and the model archive contains the AERMET and AERMOD input and output files so the run can be reproduced with the EPA programs.

Do I need to install anything?

No. AERMOD Studio works in a web browser. The models and the meteorological data processing run on our processing machine, and the results and the report appear in the browser.

Where does the meteorological data come from?

By default from the NOAA Integrated Surface Database for the nearest airport with at least 90% valid hours, with upper-air soundings from IGRA. When no airport qualifies, NASA POWER hourly data for the site is used, and you can also upload your own site weather station data. The report states the source and why each station was used or rejected.

Can the report be submitted for Environmental Clearance?

The report follows the structure used in Indian EIA practice and compares the results with the NAAQS 2009. Whether it is accepted depends on the inputs — emission data, baseline monitoring and meteorology — which remain the responsibility of the study proponent and its consultant. For EC studies, site meteorological data from the baseline season is normally expected; AERMOD Studio accepts it directly.

What does AERMOD Studio not do yet?

It models stacks over flat terrain. Terrain (AERMAP), building downwash (BPIP-PRIME) and area, volume or line sources are not included yet. Our modelling team handles such studies as a service.

How is AERMOD Studio priced?

After the free demo we quote a standard nominal charge, either per study or as an account for your team, depending on how many studies you run. There are no software licences or meteorological data subscriptions to buy separately.
